Pitily this photo is a bit too dark. It shows one of the pit cages used in Heinrich shaft to transport miners, material
etc.. The large fixing of the cage is clearly visible. What looks like railings
on the pit cage is for the case that the shaft has to be maintained from the inside.
Then a person can use that space to stand on and see whether there is damage in
the shaft and - if necessary - repair broken parts. The railings are
intended to prevent persons from falling down from the pit cage and by that
they are part of the vaste safety measures in mining.

the other pit cage is fixed at - just in a depth of 1200 metres.
